When you clone someone, is there a certain time to get it done before...?

like when someone is dead, do the Scientist have to clone them immediately, before the dead person's DNA/chromosomes become invalid. OR they could still dig an corpse off the ground after that person has dead for a year, all it left just bones. and they could still collect the DNA/Chromosomes from the bone to clone that person?
